Description

The novel tells the story of Ali, who became an American, and returned to Lebanon after 22 years to live with his mother in her final days. His family home in the south becomes the abandoned big house, a haven for Ali, who is chased by Sherine to weave around his life's events of her first novel. Shereen's desire to write intersects with her fertile memory and her attachment to the family home, and to questions of the past in which the features of the Lebanese war loom.
