Watermelon is a novel by Nguyen Trong Thuat, published in 1925. The novel won the literary prize of Khai Tri Tien Duc Association. This new edition includes 12 illustrations by Ta Huy Long.


"The Legend of Watermelon" and the character Mai An Thiem are familiar to many, through many folk retellings. Nguyen Trong Thuat's writing makes the story of Mai An Tiem an adventure novel. This is a work about the country and its people, integrating elements of Vietnamese legends, culture and history. The work is considered as a significant marker of the Vietnamese national identity.
