“This explosive will change the world.” wrote Alfred Nobel.

In 1867, Swedish chemist Alfred Nobel invented the explosive dynamite as an agent for stabilizing nitroglycerin, an explosive liquid. But then, his invention paved the way for weapons used in many wars; earning Nobel the moniker "merchant of death".

Tortured by the thought of how many people died to his invention, Nobel decided to create the prestigious Nobel Prize, as a gift from him to science to partly repay what he saw as his debt to humanity.
